FOREVER NOT

You spoke to me in tongues
Interpreted as truth
Unbound
Words flew freely
Within a room of your design
A cage of sorts with keys
Wings clipped by love
Void of inhibitions you take or took
Giving me points of reference
Running circles around my thoughts
Leading me to your mouth
Coming to my ears as a song
With honey lyrics melting into melodies
Listening
Lulled to dreams
I tasted your lips and understood
The nature of your voice
Sweet deceit

In retrospect, you were always known
Yet unknown
As a portrait of the past
As a vision of the future
An artistic endeavor
Electric
Kinetic
Reactionary
Sparking thoughts to light
Then collapsing into darkness
Feeling my way with words
You left a popcorn trail of tears
Feeding on my sympathies
You could not get enough

But your words pulled me under
Tempting me to journey deeper
With language bridging distance
With words creating links of spirit
Mists of contemplations
Just as easily evaporating
Entering the mind like whispers echo
Creating intense imaginings
I see you completely as I once saw you
Completely incomplete
Like comparing sour to sweet
Or describing taste to a starving soul
A sight for tired eyes
I saw you in my mind
Without ever truly seeing you
Reality is a demon or was or is
With a smile and promise

Now running to those secret places
Looking for solace
In the shadows we once shared
Where nothing mattered
But the next moment
The next kiss
Touch
Taste
Sound
Scent
Now lost in written pages
Words scattered like so much clutter
Searching for meaning like a drug
Finding only remnants
Of never was
Always there
Forever
Not
