STARS

The stars are not stars at all…
do you believe this?
They are reflections of a reality
that may or may not actually exist
Just my opinion…for what it’s worth
But what do I know?
I trust the experts, the ones who truly know.
Some people believe the stars to be angels
Can you imagine?
Beings of light trapped in space
Prisoners kept in cosmic bubbles
Living prisms twinkling in romantic solitude
Subject to our interpretations
based upon incredible fabrications
From magnificent minds and nerdy scientists
Stories we’ve been told, yes?
And what about this island earth?
Floating in space…on an axis, no less
Did I mention, it wobbles?
Spinning at one-thousand miles per hour
And how we are supposedly spinning…
Sixty-seven-thousand miles per hour
around the sun…
Or how our whole solar system is flying
Five hundred-fifteen-thousand miles an hour
Through an endless universe
Never crashing into anything
How strange?

Yet the north star never moves…
Why is that?
Civilizations built pyramids,
Magnificent temples
To sacrifice virgins and animals
On certain days, and years, and seasons
Perfect constellations
Goddesses and gods and sacred astrology
Worshipping fixed groups of stars
Sacred stars…you know the ones, that never move?
That is, from our point of view.
But this is the official story
It’s all I’ve ever known…but,
I’m not entirely convinced.
You think me strange, don’t you?
Don’t truly trust the science anymore
But then again, we only know
what we’ve been told
I don’t believe in round or flat
It’s something different, but not that
We’re supposed to choose a side, aren’t we?
He’s one of them flat-earther’s
She’s a globe-tard
And so it goes…

I’m not truly sure of anything these days
I’d like to go back to a time
before questions arose.
The time of simple explanations…
Trust the experts, Thomas
When space was explained to me
as a child
The stars were for wishes…remember?
Whether fixed or shooting into nothing
Look! There’s another one…
Make a wish, Thomas, make a wish!
The moon was for astronauts and wonder
Supposedly, we landed on it
But somehow, we lost the technology to go back
Very strange, wouldn’t you agree?

As I got older, space was home to monsters
Flying saucers, rocket ships, and little green men
Creature-Double-Feature
on Saturday morning…with scary threats
All kinds of threats…threats from space
It was the place of the meteors
that killed the dinosaurs…
I was sad when I learned
that the dinosaurs had died
More so than the buffalos.
The Indians were guided by stars, yes?
I don’t believe they made wishes
But they were fixed markers in space
Reflections of a reality that held truth
The Sun, The Moon, The Stars…
Stars that were fixed, that moved over them
Not from some spinning ball
We talked about this earlier.

When the world was young and stupid.
Maybe that’s too harsh a word?
How could the world be stupid?
Intelligent design isn’t stupid, is it?
Any more than a human brain
Exploding in consciousness
From a big bang…seriously?
Some people believe that…I don’t judge.
People are most definitely hungry.
They need to believe in something
Bigger than themselves
I feel this way now.
Still, we only know what we’ve been told…
Such as moving through the universe
At half a million miles an hour
And nothing is ever out of place
There’s another one, Thomas…
Make a wish!
