I’m here beside myself again,
Madman outside looking in
Contemplating, waiting for…
The things that could have been
The stereo drones, I write alone
An album on repeat…
Some tea and honey, not so sweet
My sense of taste is incomplete
Days of Future Past, an album
From the Moody Blues
Calls to mind how misery rhymes,
We’re prisoners to the words we choose
A scalpel for a pen,
Some lines of loss to cut a friend
A time to live, a time to heal,
A slow reveal from now till then
The what or when, like words I pray
The dawn, she came on time
Creating chains with things we say
So effortlessly we cross a line
You sent your body to me,
Pretty pages, slowly turned
Showing just enough to capture
Speaking lust like sugar burns
Enticing me with candy,
Sweetest nothings for my ears
It’s quite alright to crave delight
Release your darkest fears
Starting at the end,
Some middle ground, as we pretend
Affairs start out so innocent,
Regrets, when we hit send
You know me well enough to know,
The faces that I choose to show
The glow of love is more or less
A form of ghost that we both know
I’m here beside myself again,
A slave to paper and to pen
Or swirling pixels with my finger,
Lines of longing, where and when
They played that stupid song again;
This poem feels much the same
I changed the station, nothing knew…
Love’s Eternal Flame
Still, the music sparks a fire
A name, a date, a secret crime
A line of loss, a lovely liar
A marker from another time
Now, you’re where you need to be,
A choice I made, unconsciously
For sabotage comes easily,
Self-destruction, naturally
I’m never in the moment,
Madman inside looking out…
Said, I loved you, on a lark,
Spoke from both sides of my mouth
And yes, at first, you did believe…
You said, “I love you!” Why?
We’re judged by every idle word,
From first hello to last goodbye.
