HAIKU / SOMEWHERE IN DREAMS

You kiss me goodnight
As I drift off to meet you
Somewhere in my dreams…

So is this haiku really true,
Or is it in his mind?
About a lover he once knew,
Or someone he can’t find…

Is she still sleeping next to him,
Or with another man?
Is he now at the end of love,
Or where it all began…

Is he just simply resting here,
Or has he overdosed?
Praying to his God or to,
The demons he keeps close…

Will he awaken to new life
Or to a gallow’s pole?
Kiss his children and his wife,
Or lose his mortal soul?

Depending on our point of view,
This man has lived or died,
I viewed him happy once before,
But never looked inside…

For honesty’s a travesty
As ego sleeps with pride…
An image I perceived as true,
Is more or less, a lie.

It’s true, he was a fool at heart
A devil at his core
The change was subtle,
So refined…
From who he was before.

And yet, if I was silent,
Would you trust your eyes alone?
The more we see,
The less we know,
While living in our phones.

I hear that he was married once,
A gift of God, it was…
A blessing, that he squandered,
And a poor excuse for love.

I heard he was a father,
Was that something he just said?
Our words become disguises,
When we’re living in our head.

Similar to dreams,
Creating scenes we view as real…
As poets slyly scheme,
To make you think they truly feel.

My questions proving nothing,
They are all meaningless, at best.
Skewed interpretations,
Blurring facts, we second guess.

Drifting off to meet you,
Seems I’ve heard that line before,
The room is…oddly colder,
Someone’s knocking at the door…
