SAME MOON

I see the moon through your eyes
Much the same as you see mine
A line of sight from heart to heart
To span the distance we’re apart

You speak of precious memories
From childhood’s end to now
Yet somehow I can feel your pain
Longing for the summer rain

Tangled up with clouds of gray
We conjure up the sun
Paper thin the daylight slips
Keeping lips from kissing lips

Releasing words like sighs
Desire rides a razor’s edge
A wedge for skies to open
Drops like water for our tongues

Testaments of ladder rungs
I climb to touch your face
Rest my head upon your chest
Touch the things I need to taste

You see the night inside me
Much the same as I see yours
A line of sight from heart to heart
To span the miles that we’re apart
