JASMINE TEA

He hears you say, “I’ll never leave you,”
promises of love unspoken
Breaths become the sum of wanting
Slippery words and time, enchanting
Love is here as you imagine
bodies dance, becoming shadows
Shadows melt in sacred darkness,
darkness whispers, always follows
Manifesting, love incarnate,
speaking worlds into existence
Life is more than shades of memories,
futures, past and present mysteries
But back to lovers, voices soothe,
kisses deep, and passion’s slide
Touching souls as spirits move,
move inside the lives we hide

She hears him say, “I’ll never leave you,”
as he satisfies your mind
Reads the words aloud, and then
you’re seeing visions once again
Crying to the ceiling
God is resting on your lips
The room is spinning wildly
as you scream your lover’s name
Breaths come faster, one the same,
tongues that taste the life we waste
Wasting time with lovely rhymes,
rhymes as heartbeats face to face
Love as blankets comfort skin,
cotton dreams, folds of satin
Free from judgment, inhibitions,
love is here as you imagine

This alchemy you use on me
compels me to succumb to thee
In multitudes (tranquility)
fulfills in me this sense of need
For love has taught the words
forgotten from a jaded past
The lifetime loves that never last,
the days we made our own
And now the dawn approaches,
morning bleeds into the day
With nothing more to say,
you wake up to an empty room
And there, upon your nightstand,
is a notebook and a pen
You read the following words again…
you read the words again:

I’ve known you as an angel
from a time before our time
Our souls were interwoven, yes!
Graciously, so well entwined
As memories not yet known,
in secret, you desired me
In silence, yes, I needed you,
in retrospect (reflection)
A spiritual connection,
mystic guides, divine perfection
Apricity, simplicity…
the winter sun, the summer rains
Confirming lovers, one the same,
conforming to a dream
You said you felt me waiting there
You saved the poems I wrote
Elated when I read your note
The colors that you chose
The letters you would leave me
Talking hours on end and then
The warmth as we remember when
We kissed before we met
The day was blessed the time was set
In stories we both read
In haunted songs we heard
do you remember how it feels?
When time blurs time with fine details
Of possibilities we see
Creating new realities
We shared in cups of Jasmine Tea
Listen fast, or you will miss
Remember, if you will…
Dancing in each other’s arms
Sharing our first kiss
Behind the school…
Inside your car, my bedroom floor, the park
Behind the shed in shadows dark
Whatever we could do
In green fields lost in secret youth
A high school dance, we held each other
Sparkling mirror balls did spin
Like firefly’s swarm in August nights
Like sweat clings to your skin
On moonlit beaches, kissing
Seemed like time would never end
And when can I see you again?
Call me then, I’ll call you then
I’ll call when I get home
Passions ebb and flow alone
Adorned in starlight’s glimmer
Drifting on those shores so white
Embracing on our wedding night
Lost in years unfolding fast
The evermore that never lasts
The days of roses long since past
Or days of birth or times of death
On beds of grass or gray stoned lawns
The nights eventually bleed to dawn
Our words meld into why’s and how’s
I’ve known you then and know you now
And own the words I said…
The promise made with our last breath
I heard you say, “I’ll never leave.”
You heard me say, “I’ll never leave.”
A future life we both believed
Inside a cup of Jasmine Tea
