THE SECRETS THAT WE KEEP

Speaking of secrets that we keep
Tell me about the night you met
How details bleed, lest we forget
Remember how he made you laugh
The conversation slipped
between that lovely space, we shared
Fidgeting with your food
As you talked, he touched his ear
The sky was clear, the stars were bright
Drinking to the moon again…
glistening in his eyes
You felt a twinge between your thighs
He watched words form inside your mouth
You wondered about his lips, his kiss
The ocean air was sweet
Music floating on the breeze
Time stood still, a force of will
We spill our dreams so free
Confessions fly so fast, are they real?
Hard to say
He answered everything you asked
Twenty questions, maybe more
Another glass of wine or two
Another bite, another line
You liked the way he smiled
All the while you are thinking
Will he fuck me in his car?
How far is far enough it seems
He’s scheming as he rides your dreams
Asking about your goals
The distance between heart and soul
From God to man and sea to sand
How poetry’s a language
with a life unto its own
He told you he believed in God
It’s odd, you never asked
You told him, you were not so sure
That you believed in other lives
Some type of god but not quite his
Then you changed the subject blurting out…
“You have the shiniest fingernails.”
What a dorky thing to say
Fortunately, he smiled so wide,
you stroked his ego, yes?
Wondered what he was like undressed
That came as no surprise
So often have you fantasized
Releasing when you can
Every morning, every night,
and sometimes on the run
Thinking how you’d love to cum
Does he feel the same?
A flood of thoughts, who is this guy?
Gazing in his sexy eyes
You let your guard down once again
On purpose? Maybe so
Flying in the clouds again,
you fell into his arms
Melting to his mortal charms
The circle is complete
He paid the bill; you came so fast
He swept you off your feet

That story sounds familiar
Like somebody that I know
The things that we choose not to show
Secrets that we keep
Tell me about the night you met
Well, honestly, there’s some regret
A lesson learned, lest we forget
Truth bears some folly to a fault
We came together perfectly
The stage was set divine
She was hot, you told your friends
Another notch upon your pen
You wrote about her in a poem
Changed her name, of course
Fucked her brains out (no remorse)
Told her you would call
But one day turned to seven
And she blocked you off her wall
Why are poets ruthless,
looking for a soul to steal?
Some raw emotions for a meal
Some compliments and feely feels
Some time to take or heart to break
Some lines to weave a lie
How silence makes the angels cry
In shadows of the night
But surely something’s not quite right
She turned the tables then
Charmed the serpent into bed
Kissed him hard and gave him head
Taking notes of what was said
For all her friends to read
And once she satisfied her needs
She let him have some rope
He thought he pulled the wool so clever
Especially when she pulled his lever
Never did he know
How all his secret messages
Were penned like grist unto her mill
His secrets she now spilled
And so the circle is complete
A circus wheel of sweet deceit
and sex, we have in vain
Their poetry was the catalyst
for cultivating pain
