The weight of words is heavy
Like a coat no worse for wear
And a burden that you carry on your back
It’s a problem you’ve created
With the poetry you share
Filled with musings of the finer things you lack
The past has clearly dogged you
To this place you occupy
Where the present tense is always
out of reach
Same as colors fade with twilight
Blurring faces in the mind
Voices droning into something
less than speech
Stepping forward towards the future
It’s a struggle nonetheless
Scavenging for shards of truth
along the way
Cuts to bleed your bloated ego
Stitches for the skin you’re in
Shallow graves for all the idol
things you say
Still the hunger keeps you moving
Down a path of least resistance
Expectations are the promises
you’ve bought
Same as snakes, they keep uncoiling
Paying tolls to bridge the distance
Between what you want and things
that you’ve been taught
Ending where the journey started
There’s a soundtrack for your soul
Life’s a sick wheel turning for the pain you crave
There’s a sense of self that’s calling
And a day never arriving
Keeps you driving into yesterday again
White line fever is for nomads
Sticky fangs to bite your heels
All your lies return as serpents to their den
Swallowed by the road, pretending
Hope is dragged under the wheels
Here’s another story bleeding from your pen
There’s a skeletal horizon
Sinking in an orange sun
Why do metaphors confuse my vain perceptions?
Glaring through your rearview mirror
Like a demon on the run
Nullifies your expectations at inception
There’s a time before you left me
When we sacrificed restraints
Casting cares like moldy bread onto the sea
Letting passions flow like honey
Lusts as multi-colored paints
Strokes of mischief on a canvas destiny
Now I paint your eyes from memory
Into hazy shades of gray
Starving artists often die before their time
Rhymes that bind us to these pages
Worthless words of loss we pray
So obsessive, searching for that perfect line
Now you hear the lyrics taunting
Soundtracks for a fractured mind
Life’s a record on repeat that never ends
Future’s fade, yet always calling
As the present is ignored
Keeps you driving into yesterday again
Roads hold clues to your undoing
Same as rain diluting tears
Much like rhymes inside the mind,
the madness turns
Still I seek a vain redemption
For the exit signs I fear
Not arriving is a lesson never learned
Seems the sky’s forever falling
Crying wolf to itching ears
No one listens for they’ve heard those words before
Numbers added to the quotient
Can’t get out of my own way
Only happy when I’m walking out the door
Silence multiplies your questions
Chances that you’re never taking
Moving on from blatant truth you’re never hearing
Time slips steadfast toward the future
Like the speed limits you’re breaking
Seems we manifest the ends that we are fearing
And what about those ends we fear?
Moments captured in a song
Two hearts beating, melting greedily into one
What we have is disappearing
Only pain that we’re creating
Haunted by the jaded past, we’re running from
Yes, you’re ending where you started
Soundtrack for a restless soul
Life’s a sick wheel turning for your constant pain
Message for your fractured musings
As the future proves the past
Keeps you driving into yesterday again
