ENTANGLED

You know I’ve told you often
How our memories are a blessing
How confessing’s never easy
Sacrificing rhymes for reasons
Changing subjects with a wink
The more we think, the less we lose
This may or may not be true
But who am I to choose?
What’s right or wrong is relative
To the one who reads this post
The most we can expect
Are lines of romance or neglect
Reflecting life with vain suggestions
Heartbreak so sublime
Answering with questions
As a way to stall for time
The lesser of two evils cancels out
those shades of doubt
Praising passing poets
Same as gray clouds cross the sky
Acid words to sting your eyes
Water words to cool your face
A countenance of paper space
Creating inked scenarios
Of what and never was
For example, take this bed
A silken canvas for our dreams
You said you were an artist
Painting portraits with your words
But art is so subjective
Born of shadows and of light
You come in colors like the song
Long for light to call your own

And so the sun becomes a thing
A metaphor for brilliance, true
So much darker than the moon
Why speak in metaphors?
Writing out this letter
Full of rain and wanting words
A testament of fate
Questioning what you just heard
Trading love for hate
The page becomes my nemesis
Remembrances in halves and thirds
Reeling through those hungry years
Reels of restless moments, dear
I long to taste your kiss once more
Remember how it was before
Listen to the song…
Norah Jones sings,
“I’ve got to see you again…”
Dancing in your living room
The music melds with heartbeats
Blood and tears, and sweat on skin
Enraptured with the spell we’re in
Or under just the same
Within the throes of secret love

Shall I begin the tale, my love?
The story of a time
How love unfurls
How lovers swoon
The courtship of the sun and moon
And how on earth could I forget?
No lies to let,
No fond regrets
Placing bets on dogs and horses
Racing toward the finish line
You read my mind while coming first
And shall I die of thirst?
Upon this desert plain of want
I drink the air and think it’s wine
Tell the world I’m feeling fine
Counting grains of sand to build
That perfect hourglass
To bind my soul to seconds
Maybe measure my resentment
Daydreaming between your breasts
Oasis of contentment?
The sacred thoughts that you inspired
Aura’s, halos, velvet wires
How to see what can’t be seen
Adjusting to your darkness
The shades of blue you covet
When you think nobody’s looking

When we first met, you blushed
You know, I knew I spoke too soon
Some quip I made about your lips
The way you held your spoon
Clicking on the cup
Stirring mischief in a glance
My eyes divined perchance
To find that key inside your mind
The shade of pink you chose
The clothes you wore (your choice)
Kate Spade, I think.
Your hair
Your voice
Yes, pink becomes you,
Or became
Honey, slipping off your name
Watching words inside your mouth
The way you held a knife
Sparks imagination
Stark enchantment
Words we’re choosing
How love affairs begin
Innocence we take for granted
Lines so sweet, enchanted
The ending never came to mind
In ecstasy, we follow blind

Come sit by my side, my love
And tell me what I long to hear
A whispered promise in my ear
Maybe more, if time allows
How things we say evolve to vows
And just as easily dissolve
You read to me as if a child
Neruda in a state of flux
Byron, Keats, Browning
Wicked alchemy in syllables
I was surely hypnotized
Before I ever realized
The world you opened up to me
Like lovely cuts upon my soul
Dying happily in your arms
And then you breathe me in again
Resuscitating with a kiss
Stop my heart and start it
With a word, you speak of life
Or a matchhead sparks a flame
I hear your name almost too late
A twist of fate so sweetly turned
Pursued you with a penchant
And you greedily obliged

Sipping words like sugar
Rosehip tea and tastes for tongues
Levels climb as ladder rungs
To heaven’s gate and back
Watching in a mirror
Writing poetry on your back
Your Lavender intoxicates
Overwhelming…swirling thoughts
On your knees, you cried to god
I said the same prayer every day
Blessing everything we say
Words becoming breaths
Listening closely with our souls
Whispers racing up my spine
Those slippery fantasies unwind
Coveting your kisses
Hunger flames like sacred psalms
Brilliant, never burning
Boiling blood to passion’s bed
We sway as newborn lovers
Creating artwork under covers
Silkin kinship, heart’s entwined
Is love immortal?
Time divine?
I feel you now as fire
Yes, the warmth of a mischievous sun
That shines only for you, and I
Do these words live inside you?
Memories manifest
How dreams seemed to unwind
Into the realms of always yes…
Always was…always is
We complicate the loss we miss

And now, I am an author
Pining for his paragraphs
Hoarding loss like stars above
Delivering promises as a dove
On the windowsill of my soul
Leaving me details
Bringing forever
Magnificent moments
Misquoted endeavors
Words on words and more they came
We spoke in mystic evenings
You told me what you loved the most
How poetry turns you on
How words are hands creating bonds
Like velvet ropes around your wrists
Snaking to your elbows
Tied as love notes close behind
The touch to drive you to the skies
And you were not afraid to fly
Neither I, as I recall
The room vibrates in decibels
You screamed and fell into my arms
Eclectic charms in multiples
You asked me what I loved the most
How mystery rules the day
But darkness sheds light just the same
Strips our inhibitions away

And was it love? Yes, it was
A myriad of lovely lines
Confessions in a glass of wine
Maybe two or maybe three
We know what’s true instinctively
How knowledge is sublime
The more we know about a thing
Decisions come to bear
What’s denied and what we share
We know as we are known
Perfection is illusion
Just as beauty is a lie
Acceptance is a gamble
Truth so easily denied
It’s not always the things we love
Nor faults of mind we hate
It’s more a choice of what we need
What we are willing to tolerate

The dalliance of precious time
The pleasures of the nights we seek
Hanging on the words you speak
How your voice still draws me in
Seduction for mercurial minds
I find myself in present tense
A slave to love, in my defense
The power of your tongue
As every night begins, begun
No ending to consume
In retrospect, I’ve loved you
And in truth, I love you still
Entanglement in satin
Let us dance in fields of light
Delight is magic where we lay
The stars are angels on display
They watch us kiss with envious eyes
Fingers dance between your thighs
Your body is my temple
Let me pray between your eyes
On the altar of your mind
Will I sacrifice my soul?
Until your blessing is released
It was…and so it was…
As if a song without the words
And yet I heard you in my thoughts
Within your sighs, between your breaths
You watch me, hungry, tasting, rushing
Devouring moments, almost satisfied
Laying your hands atop my head
Watching as the sky explodes
Supernova dreams on ceilings
Then the moon comes suddenly
Through sweet cream clouds
To shower you in stardust streams
Now you ride on lightning
Arching over me, ecstatic
Candles casting shadows
Rolling thunder off your tongue
And how will we describe these scenes
To document the stuff of dreams?

It seems the gods approved
Yes, they blessed my recollections
Introspections poured like honey
Inkwells filled with what was when
The now and then
Once and again
Oh perfect love
I remember you
It’s always been that way
You know this much is true
The memory of those early days
The magic haze of conversation
Drifting off to sleep
Remembering your voice
Not a choice I could deny
Days unfolding like pages
Remembering the love we made
Your perfume on my skin
On my pillow, on my lips
Memory was always a blessing
Until it was not
