And what of stars we cling to
Like those wishes that we bend
Conforming to a type of life
The moment we hit send
Your argument is justified
In retrospect, it was
So innocently mystified
The mind creates the rest
What’s best is difficult to gauge
We want, therefore, we are
Another blood stain on the page
Some poem to vent your seething rage
Now others read your posts
And say how much they can relate
And for a time you wallow
While you hurry up and wait
Like actors on audition
Memorizing their regrets
The method to the madness
Bridging loss you can’t forget
A marker for the mindless
Like a song played out of tune
Viewing life in mono
While I’m sitting in the moon
I listened to you speak
as if a record in reverse
Secrets are for keeping
We decipher what we need
And all too soon we bleed on cue
A tripwire for our tongues
Confessions fall like autumn leaves
The truth arrives a liar
Acquiring the wrath of fools
So elegantly weaves
The lines like vines we intertwine
Rejecting love’s defeat
All the while we skirt around
The elephant in the room
Find yourself alone again
Sitting in the moon
Looking out to where the sky
Fills in the void of space
We post another heartbreak
And so carelessly replace
Another steely crush is gushing
At your every word
Sending photos and a kiss
Between what’s seen and heard
It came across my screen it seems
The timing was a dream
You whispered your intentions
Climaxing to a scream
A name upon your tongue
As I recall, it tasted sweet
Another slippery poem to slide
Inside your castle keep
And much the same, our fortresses
Collapse in sand too soon
Rebuilding fallen kingdoms
While we’re sitting in the moon
There was a time when love was new
Before I fell from grace
Returning to my primal self
A prisoner of space
I looked at you with envious eyes
Like HG Wells once wrote
A rocket ship of unsold scripts
So funny how perspective shifts
But sailing on the air is easy
Living in our heads
We quench those candlewicks of hope
When burning in our beds
Whirling like a dervish
In a trance we raved till dawn
But when the music ended
Fear of falling was reborn
Now looking back the view’s the same
The day is nothing new
It’s easy to forget your name
When sitting in the moon
I touch the void of space you left
My mind bereft of reasons why
We cry so easy, wounded walking
Lost inside the bonds of speech
We reach with questions (answers, slay)
Saying much inside our silence
Shutting down the conversation
Time to go, goodnight, I love you
The days once wide as stars were bright
Funeral dirges. Weddings white
Nights filled with persistent memory
Filling in the blanks you sent me
Yet it’s easy in the moment
Words race round the tongue (enticing)
Tasty lies to spread like butter
Trading one life for another
Such is love and stars above
The night gives sway too soon
The view is skewed so easily
When sitting in the moon
