Let’s cast our hands in gray cement
As a tribute to a love’s lament
Like second thoughts on dirty walks
where strangers whisper, point, and gawk
At shooting stars that burn above
Or such a love that never was
An autograph to make you laugh
A movie ticket torn in half
Just use your finger as a pen
like Fred Astaire or Marilyn
A gravestone marker with a date
An unclean slate to hold our hate
Let’s draw a heart around our names
The sad remains of human stains
Some memories etched as living stone
Now cast back on these streets alone
Two names upon a walk of shame
some lovely lines to catch the rain
A work of art in gray cement
A tribute to a love’s lament
